Other household insects
The same number can help with other indoor insects. UT Extension describes each of these:
- Silverfish. Gray, wingless and quick, with three long tails. They feed on starchy things such as book bindings, wallpaper and cardboard, and attics are often the source.
- Earwigs. Easy to spot by the pinchers at the end of the body. They live in leaf litter, mulch and woodpiles and wander in by accident. Treatment usually isn't needed.
- Centipedes. Long, slim, many-legged and fast, active at night. They feed on insects and can bite. A bare strip of 12 to 18 inches along the foundation helps.
- House flies. About 1/4 inch, dull gray with four dark stripes behind the head. Larvae grow in warm organic matter, so trash removal, tight lids and window screens matter most.
